DescriptionInfant's shirt of white cotton. It is made of a rectangle of fabric, folded in half to form the shoulderline. The folded edge is cut vertically for 2 1/8 inches, two inches inside the outer edge. This forms the shoulder straps. The inner section is cut along the fold line, creating front and back flaps that fold down over the belly band, creating a wide, square neckline. These flaps are rounded at the corners. The side seams are open for two inches from the bottom to create a vent, and 4 1/4 inches from the top to create the armhole. The sleeves are 2 1/4 inches long and are gathered at the shoulder. They are embellished with two pin tucks above the hem and an edging of narrow bobbin lace. A gusset creates ease below the arm. The bottom of each slit beside the flaps is reinforced with buttonhole stitching.
