DescriptionInfant's shirt of white cotton. The shirt is constructed of a long, narrow rectangle with the short ends folded to the center back. The folds on the sides are slit for 2 1/2 inches to create an armhole for the sleeve. The sleeve is 1 3/4-inch wide and is gathered at the top into the armhole. A gusset provides ease under the arm. Four more slits along the top edge create flaps that would fold down over the belly band to prevent chafing. This creates a wide, square neckline. The flaps are edged with narrow machine-made bobbin lace.
