DescriptionInfant's shirt made of fine, white linen. The shirt is constructed of a long, narrow rectangle, with the short ends folded to the center back. The top of the folds are slit to accomodate the sleeves, which have a gusset for ease under the arm. The sleeves are 2 3/4 inches long and are gathered at the shoulder. They are ornamented with a row of whitework embroidery, a row of drawn threadwork, and an edging of bobbin lace. The shoulder is inset with a strip of bobbin lace, flanked by drawn threadwork. Vertical slits from the top edge create flaps that fold down over the belly band. These flaps are ornamented with a border of drawn threadwork and an edging of bobbin lace.
