DescriptionInfant's shirt of white cotton. It is made of a long rectangle of fabric, folded in half, with the folded edge along one side, and the ends of the rectangle (which are selvages) whip-stitched together to form the opposite side seam. The sides are vented for about 2 1/4 inches from the bottom. The top edge is slit for about 2 1/2 inches, creating the shoulder straps and a front and back flap to fold down over the belly band. These flaps are rounded at the corners. The bottoms of the slits are reinforced with buttonhole stitching. The shoulder seam is inserted with bobbin lace. The sleeves are two inches long and are embellished with two pin tucks above the hem, and an edging of scalloped crocheted lace. Gussets provide ease under the arm. The sleeve is gathered at the top of the armhole.
