DescriptionInfant's shirt of white cotton. It is cut as a long rectangle, with the two ends folded to the center back. The sleeves are made by slashing the fabric for 3 1/4 inches on the folded edge, and in a curve, down from the top edge. The two tabs thus created are seamed together to form a shoulder strap. A small, triangular gusset is set into the bottom of the armhole. The curved edge of the shoulder strap folds back over the top of the arm. The armhole and inside shoulder strap edges are trimmed with narrow bobbin lace. The shoulder straps are further embellished with featherstitching done in white cotton thread. The flaps created at front and back from cutting the fabric for the shoulder straps are rounded and fold down to prevent the belly band from chafing the baby. The edges of these flaps are left plain. The stitching of this shirt is much less fine than the stitching of the other baby shirts in this accession.
