DescriptionInfant's shirt of white cotton. It is made from a long rectangle of fabric, with the narrow ends folded to the center back, creating the opening. The fold on each side is slit for 3 5/8 inches to create the armhole. A 1 1/8-inch-wide sleeve is set into the armhole. It is edged with a narrow bias strip of self-fabric connected by faggoting to the main sleeve. The top of the shirt is slit diagonally to create front and back flaps that fold down over the belly band. The edges of the flaps and inside shoulder strap are finished in the same manner as the sleeves. The shoulder seam is open for about an inch from the neck edge, allowing the corners of the shoulder strap to fold back decoratively.
