DescriptionWoman's chemise of plain linen. The front and back panels are cut separately and are joined by shoulder straps. The neckline is square and wide (3 3/4 inches deep x 12 inches wide); the center front is slit for twelve inches, the edges turned under and narrow-hemmed. The sleeves are short (7 3/4 inches) and are set smoothly into the shoulder straps. Ease is provided by underarm gussets. The front of the chemise is not pieced; the back panel is constructed of three lengths of fabric. Seams are finished by turning the allowances out or to one side and stitching them down.
