DescriptionWoman's white cotton chemise, with the front and back panels gathered into a narrow yoke. The yoke has a scalloped neckline edge, and is decorated with chain-stitch embroidery imitating soutache braid. The yoke extends about five inches down the center front. It has an opening worked with small holes for lacing. The original narrow tape is laced through the bottom holes. The neckline is wide and shallow. The sleeves are short (four inches) and are embroidered along the edge like the yoke. They are gathered slightly at the shoulder, and are cut full under the arm, so there are no gussets. The flare at the bottom of the chemise is pieced with small triangles of fabric at the side seams. The hem is 3/4-inch wide.
