Tamara Gregorieff

American, 1906 - 1960
BiographyTamara Gregorieff was born on 18 May 1906 in St. Petersburg, Russia. She was the daughter of Concordia Vechesloff Gregorieff (1884-1963) and General Alexander Paul Gregorieff (1871-1947). Her father served under both Tsar Alexander III and Tsar Nicholas II, fought in the Russo-Japanese War and World War I, and was a personal friend of members of the Russian royal family. During the 1917 Russian Revolution, the Gregorieff family was forced into hiding while her father joined the White Army. The family escaped to Constantinople and stayed there at least three years. In 1923, the family immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island and eventually settled in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Tamara attended Ohio Wesleyan University. On 2 June 1943, she enlisted in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) and during World War II served as an interpreter with the General Staff. She died on 18 March 1960 at Hartford Hospital.
