Robert Foster Gadd Sr.

BiographyRobert Foster Gadd Sr. was born on 21 December 1871 in Sudlersville, Maryland. He was the son of Abraham Gadd (1832-1918) and Elizabeth Foster (1832-1918). In 1893, he graduated from Lehigh University as a civil engineer. In 1905, he established the New England office of Levering and Garrigues Steel Corporation in Hartford, Connecticut. In the 1920s, he was president of the Hartford Water Board. He was a member of the Troop B Calvary and was a member of the Governor’s Foot Guard. He was a member of Gov. Wilbur L. Cross’ staff.

He married Kate Pattison Legg (1876-1950). They had four children: Elizabeth Henrietta Gadd (1903-1990), Robert Foster Gadd Jr. (1906-1994), Frank W. Gadd (b. 1908), and Katherine Mackey Gadd Gundersen (1916-1998). He died on 18 November 1959 in Farmington, Connecticut.
