BiographyWilliam J. O'Brien Jr. was born in Portland, Connecticut. He graduated from Wesleyan University. He served eight terms in the Connecticut House of Representatives after first winning in 1952. He was named Speaker of the House in 1959. In 1961, O'Brien was appointed to the state Liquor Control Commission and served in this position until 1973.
