DescriptionInfant's shirt of white cotton, constructed from a long rectangle, with the narrow ends folded to the center back to create the opening. The side folds are slashed to insert the short sleeves, which are gathered at the shoulder. The sleeves are cut as a long rectangle and are set into the shirt with one corner folded up diagonally to create a gusset effect under the arm. The top edge of the shirt is slashed 1 1/2 inches inside the shoulder edge. This creates front and back flaps, which fold down over the baby band and result in a wide, square neckline. The edges of the flaps and edges of the sleeves are scalloped and finished with buttonhole stitches. An eyelet is worked within each scallop.
