DescriptionInfant's shirt of fine white cotton. The shirt is made of a long rectangle of fabric, with the short ends folded towards what is presumably the center front, as the neckline is cut lower on this side. (Usually, infant shirts have a center back opening.) The neckline is wide and round, and is trimmed with a one-inch-wide whipped self-fabric ruffle. The top of the side folds are slit for a depth of about four inches; the lower part of the slit is inset with a gusset. The armhole that is thus created is edged with a ruffle like the neckline, but narrower. The shoulder seam is decorated by drawn threadwork and herringbone stitches.
