BiographySamuel S. Googel was born in Orsa, Russia and immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island as a child. He grew up in New Britain, Connecticut. He was state representative from New Britain in the 1931, 1933, 1955, 1957 and 1959 sessions of the General Assembly. He was elected minority leader in 1957 and majority leader in 1959. In 1966, he was named a Superior Court judge after serving as chief judge on the Court of Common Pleas. He died on 16 September 1988.
