Margaret Driscoll

BiographyMargaret Connors Driscoll was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1915. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1935 and received her law degree from Yale Law School in 1938, one of five women in the class. In 1944, she was the Democratic candidate for Congress from Fairfield County, but was defeated by the Republican incumbent, Clare Boothe Luce.
In 1960, Driscoll was appointed as a judge to the Connecticut Juvenile Court. She served as the first woman to be chief judge of the Connecticut Juvenile Court from 1976-1978. She was a judge of the Connecticut Superior Court from 1978-1985. She was an opponent of mandatory sentences and long confinement for juveniles, and was president of the National Council of Juvenile Court Judges in 1976 and 1977.
Her husband, John J. Driscoll (1911-1994), was president of the Connecticut State Labor Council for 24 years. They had one son, David.
She died on May 15, 2000 in Fairfield, Connecticut, at the age of 85.
