Chase T. Rogers
Chase T. Rogers, born on November 12, 1956, in New York City, is an American jurist. She served as the Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court, becoming the second woman to hold this position.
Rogers recieved a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University in 1979 and a Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1983. Her legal career began in private practice at Cummings & Lockwood in Stamford, Connecticut, where she specialized in commercial and employment litigation for 14 years and became a partner in 1991.
In 1998, she transitioned to public service, becoming a Connecticut Superior Court judge. Her assignments included presiding over juvenile matters in Bridgeport, the regional Child Protection Session in Middletown, and the Complex Litigation Docket in Stamford.
In 2006, Rogers was appointed to the Connecticut Appellate Court, serving for a year before being nominated by Governor M. Jodi Rell to be the Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. She was sworn in on April 25, 2007, by Ellen Ash Peters, the first female Chief Justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court.
During her tenure as Chief Justice, from 2007 to 2018, Rogers was recognized for her efforts to enhance access to justice, improve transparency within the judicial branch, and streamline court processes. She retired from the bench in February 2018.
Beyond her judicial roles, Rogers has served on the State Justice Institute's Board of Directors, appointed by President Barack Obama in 2010, and chaired the board from 2016-2018. She was also appointed to the Federal-State Jurisdiction Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts in 2012.
