BiographyAlice A. Bruno received her law degree and a master's degree in social work from the University of Connecticut. She has an undergraduate degree from Tufts University. In 1981, Bruno began working for the New Haven law firm Tyler, Cooper & Alcorn, where she practiced a wide range of law from commercial litigation and professional licensing to family matters and probate appeals. In 1985, while on maternity leave, Bruno became a partner in the law firm, one of only three female partners. After 1992, Bruno and her husband opened a small law firm in Branford, but she left the firm in 2005, after the couple divorced. She then worked as a staff attorney for the state office of the probate court administrator until she became deputy chief clerk in New Haven in 2006.
In 2012, she became the first female Executive Director of the Connecticut Bar Association. She was a volunteer attorney for the New Haven Truancy Intervention Project and was appointed to the board of directors of Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers Connecticut, a nonprofit organization that offers crisis intervention and referral services to the Connecticut legal community.
