Susan Wolfson

American, 1938 - 2005
BiographySusan Wolfson (1938-2005) was an American lawyer. Wolfson graduated from Barnard College in 1959, and pursued graduate studies at NYU and Connecticut College, working in economic research, before attending law school at the University of Connecticut School of Law, and graduating with honors in 1976. She joined the New Haven law firm of Baldwin, Lieberman and Segaloff in 1976, and became a partner in Lieberman, Segaloff and Wolfson in 1981. She continued as a partner in the firm of Susman, Duffy and Segaloff until her retirement due to illness in 2004.

She served as Chair of the Medical - Legal Committee of the New Haven County Bar Association, and Chair of the Bench-Bar Committee before becoming an officer of that association, reaching the presidency of the New Haven County Bar Association. She continue her work on a statewide basis by serving on the Connecticut Bar Association Executive Committee of the Family Law Section, as Chair of the Judiciary Committee, Chair of the Fee Dispute Arbiration Panel, Chair of the Committee to Study Arbitration of Disputes between lawyers, and serving on the House of Delegates and Board of Govenors, the Special Task Force to Study Lawyers' Trust Accounts and climbing the ladder so that she became President of the Connecticut Bar Association. She was appointed to he CBA Gender Bias Committee. She served on the Council of the family Law Section of the American Bar Association, and was Chair of the Alimony and Spousal Support Committee of that section from 1994 to 2000.

Wolfson was particularly recognized for her advocacy in areas such as civil rights and social justice. Throughout her career, she held various prominent positions, including serving as a public defender and working with legal aid organizations. Beyond her direct legal practice, Wolfson was also an influential figure in legal education and reform. She contributed to shaping legal policy and mentored numerous lawyers. Susan Wolfson passed away on June 14, 2005.
