DescriptionOvoid, small-mouthed, redware jar with a flat base and gently swelled sides that narrow at the neck and form a plain rim. A ledge circling the inside edge of the rim suggests that the jar had a lid at one time, but it is now missing. The outside of the jar is decorated with patches of manganese black, copper green, and red under a clear lead glaze. The areas of color meld with each other and drip down the side of the jar to give the jar a mottled appearance. The bottom inch of the jar is not glazed. The inside of the jar has mild patches of color and is coated with a lead glaze.
The jar has significant crazing over all glazed surfaces; the crazing has led to two areas where the glaze has chipped off, both on the sides of the jar. There are several very small chips in the rim, and several more on the ledge that runs around the inside edge of the rim.
