DescriptionWide-mouthed, squat, ovoid, redware lidded jar. The jar (.a) has incised lines circling the shoulder just below the rim, as well as two delicate, applied, lug handles. The handles are pressed against the jar along their full length, attaching completely to the shoulder of the jar. The interior of the jar is coated with a lead glaze, and much of the exterior is as well, with the exception of the bottom two inches of the jar, which are unglazed. Many irregular patches of manganese black have been applied to the jar and its domed lid (.b). The lid has two bands of raised circles around a round, disc-shaped finial in the center.
There is crazing over all the glazed surfaces, eight chips on the lid, several nicks along the edge of the rim, and five chips of glaze missing from the inside bottom of the jar. A large crack has developed at the rim over a handle, running down the side of the jar to the widest point, and cracking the handle as well. There are scratches in the glaze on the widest portions of the jar.
