DescriptionWide-mouthed, ovoid, redware jar. The jar has a flat, round bottom, and sides that swell then narrow to form a rolled rim. Two groups of five horizontal incised lines circle the jar; one group is just below the rim, and the second group is two inches below that. Between the two groups of incised lines is an alternating pattern of four vertical incised lines and six horizontal incised lines. Two delicate, applied lug handles are pressed against the jar along their full length just below these incised lines. Additional incised lines have been applied to the surface of the handles. The interior of the jar is coated with a lead glaze, and much of the exterior is as well, with the exception of less than an inch of the exterior side of the jar, which is unglazed. A few irregular patches of manganese black have been applied to the jar, generally at the shoulder and rim.
Many small chips of glaze are missing from the top surface of the rim, and there is crazing over all the glazed surfaces of the jar. A large crack extends from the rim down the side of the jar, and there are about five chips in the foot of the jar. Light scratches cover the widest points of the glazed surface of the jar.
