DescriptionCylindrical redware jar or crock with a clear lead glaze and several patches of manganese black decoration. The lead glaze is applied to the interior and much of the exterior; the bottom half-inch of the sides of the jar/crock is left unglazed. The jar/crock has a flat bottom and cylindrical sides that rise to form a plain standing rim. There is a raised line about an inch and a half below the rim. Two pulled, lug handles are pressed against the jar/crock along their full length, attaching completely over the raised line of ceramic.

There is crazing over all the glazed surfaces of the jar/crock and three large chips, as well as several smaller chips, in the rim. Small flakes of glaze have chipped off the raised line of redware and the handles, revealing the ceramic below. There are many light scratches in these areas as well.
