DescriptionInfant's shirt of white cotton. The shirt is constructed of a rectangle of fabric folded in half to form the shoulderline. The sides are inset with gores to create flare in the body. The upper area of the sides are left open and narrow-hemmed to form the armholes. Vertical slits two inches in from each side form the shoulder straps. The center section is cut along the fold to form front and back flaps that fold down over the belly band or petticoat. One flap, presumably the front, is inked with a flourished inscription, "Andrew/ 4". The shirt is otherwise unornamented.
