DescriptionCylindrical, wide-mouthed redware butter cooler with a clear lead glaze on the interior and exterior. The glaze does not cover the bottom or the bottom quarter-inch of the sides of the butter cooler. The butter cooler has a flat bottom, vertical sides, and a plain rim. There are two bands of four incised lines circling the butter cooler; one group is located just beneath the rim, and the other group is halfway down the side. There are several scratches and light chips to the glaze on the top surface of the rim; all the glazed surfaces of the butter cooler show signs of crazing. The butter cooler had a lid at one time (now missing).
