DescriptionWide-mouthed, redware lidded jar with a clear lead glaze on the interior and exterior and several irregular spots of manganese black decoration on the outside. The bottom of the jar is unglazed. The cylindrical jar (a) has a raised band about one inch below the plain, vertical rim. There are two pulled lug handles applied over this same band. The jar comes with a domed lid (b) that is glazed on top with a clear lead glaze, and has a small, disc-shaped finial in the center. The lid was probably not originally used with this jar. It is a slightly different shade of red, and does not share the same spots of manganese black decoration.

The glazed surfaces are crazing, and there are many light scratches on the outside of the jar. There is one chip in the rim, and most of the glaze has worn off the top surface of the rim. There are multiple chips in the rim of the lid and overall scratches to the glaze, especially on the finial. One area of the lid is indented.
