DescriptionSmall-mouthed redware preserve jar that has a slightly tapered body, narrow neck, and a flared rim that supports a lid. An incised line circles the shoulder and neck of the jar (.a). The interior is coated with a clear lead glaze, and much of the exterior is as well, with the exception of the bottom inch of the jar, which is unglazed. Many small, irregular patches of manganese black have been applied to the outside of the jar. The disc-shaped lid (.b) has a small, disc-shaped finial in the center. It does not fit well into the jar, nor does it have the same manganese black decoration. The lid is coated on the top with a clear lead glaze. There is light crazing over all the glazed surfaces of the jar and lid, and much of the glaze has chipped off the top surface of the rim of the jar.
