DescriptionA long line of soldiers in Union army uniforms confronts a line of Confederate troops across an open space partially filled with bushes and partially hidden by smoke. The men are armed with rifles with fixed bayonets. The Union forces carry American flags. The rebels carry Confederate flags. Dead and wounded men lie at the left. Reinforcements and officers on horseback are at the right. Trees are in the background. A large tree in the left foreground appears to have Spanish moss hanging from its branches.
