DescriptionUnion forces at the left engage Rebel forces charging from the right. The men on both sides carry rifles with fixed bayonets. Some fire at point blank range. A soldier wearing a Union uniform stabs a rebel soldier in the breast with his bayonet. The wounded man falls backwards. Another man falls at the far left, near an officer gesturing with a sword. An American flag flies overhead. A tree stump and flowering plants are in the center foreground. A Confederate soldier lies dead or wounded at the far right.
