DescriptionUnion soldiers charge up a steep hill at the left. Rebel troops retreat before them. The men wear military uniforms and carry rifles with fixed bayonets or swords. One man waves an American flag. Most men have beards or mustaches. A man falls backwards at the far left. At the right, a Union soldier seizes the back of a Rebel's shirt and runs him through the back with his bayonet. Dead and wounded men lie on the ground. Near the top of the hill, a Rebel sharpshooter fires from behind a tree. A Confederate flag flies nearby. Dense cannon smoke is at the right. Trees are in the background.
