DescriptionRanks of Union soldiers on horseback charge from the left. The men have rifles slung across their backs and hold swords or sabers. One man holds an American flag. The officer in the foreground wears a hat with a plume and has a beard and mustache. Dead and wounded men sit or lie on the ground near a shattered cannon beneath leafless trees. Confederate cavalry charges from the right background. Additional troops in the background are partially hidden by dense smoke.
