The skirt is gathered to separate left and right bodice pieces across the back. The dress is open all the way down the back. The sleeves are cut as long half-ovals, with the corners meeting at the top of the shoulder. A triangular flap folds down from the neckline at the front. The sleeves and the front flap are embroidered with non-representational whitework designs and are edged with bobbin lace. The edges of the sleeves, front flap, and the side seams and armscye are covered with decorative bullion stitching. The hem is embroidered with a stylized floral design, flanked by rows of very fine piping and vandyke points. The center back opening edges are finished with the vandyke points. The dress closes with drawstrings at the neckline and waist.
