DescriptionInfant's dress of white cotton with a woven check pattern. In front, the dress bodice and skirt are cut as one. The bodice is defined by three vertical strips of whitework embroidery, with piped edges. The skirt front is gathered into the bottom of each whitework strip. In back, the skirt and bodice are cut separately, and the skirt is cartridge-pleated to the bottom of the bodice, which has four drawstrings gathered within casings. The wide, square neckline is also controlled by a drawstring at the center back opening. The short sleeves are edged with points made by buttonhole-stitching over fine, white cotton fabric. Two rounded flaps cover the sleeves, meeting at the shoulderline under a single mother of pearl button. These flaps are also edged with the buttonhole-stitched points. The skirt has three 2 1/4-inch-deep tucks taken around it.
