DescriptionInfant's shirt of white linen, with wide, square neck and short sleeves trimmed with a scalloped edging of whitework embroidery. The neckline of the shirt is lower on the same side where the opening is located. This would seem to indicate that this side is the front, but it is unusual in this period for infant shirts to be front-opening. The sleeves have a decorative tuck above the trimming of the opening. A gusset set under the sleeve provides ease.
Object number1968.33.11
NotesHistorical Note: Sally Stiles (b. 1786) married Newman Holley on 17 November 1805. She made this baby shirt for her first child, Francis Newman Holley, born 13 May 1807.
