DescriptionYoung child's dress of white cotton, with a high, slightly wide neckline edged with eyelet embroidery. The center front of the dress is gathered into a 5 1/2-inch-wide horizontal strip of eyelet stitched about 4 1/2 inches below the neckline. Amidst the gathering, a center strip of eyelet embroidery is flanked by two shorter strips of eyelet. The sleeves are 7 1/2 inches long and are gathered at the shoulder. They end in turned-back cuffs edged with eyelet embroidery. There is a machine-stitched, 3 1/2-inch-deep tuck taken through the middle of the skirt; as the rest of the dress is hand-stitched, this is probably a later alteration. The center back opening is about ten inches long and ties closed at the top with a drawstring which is inserted around the neckline.
