DescriptionView of the earth from an altitude of one mile. Mr. Doughtly made this exposure at 2.30 one afternoon late in the autumn...From this height..the entire state seems to be divided up into irregular plots of ground as shown in this view. The different shades serve to distinguish the various crops. The farm house near center of view, with the orchard in the rear, is the homestead of S.B. Pinney, Bloomfield, Conn. / These are the first and only successful views ever taken from a balloon.
