DescriptionWoman's white cotton chemise with a V-shaped neckline insert that appears to have been made from the corner of a handkerchief. This insert is embroidered in feather and outline stitches with a heart and bow. The lower corner is embroidered with a floral pattern, and the hem edge is stitched with pulled threadwork. The center front of the chemise is gathered around the point of the insert. The low, round neckline and armholes are edged with narrow Valenciennes lace. The back of the chemise is gathered into the neckline. The chemise is above-knee length. The bottom is edged with a 3 5/8-inch ruffle, headed by a band of machine-embroidered insertion.
