DescriptionWoman's white cotton nightgown, with a yoke that is decorated front and back with diagonal tucks alternating with insertions of whitework embroidery. The yokes are pointed at center front and center back. The neckline is high and round and finished with a narrow standing band; this band is edged with whitework embroidery which widens at the front and turns down like a pointed collar. The front and back panels of the nightgown are gathered into the yoke. The nightgown opens at center front with a 16 1/2-inch button placket, with six mother of pearl buttons. The placket continues as a pleat down to the hem. The armscyes are piped. The long sleeves are cut with an upper and lower seam like a coat sleeve and are gathered at the shoulder. The sleeve tapers to the wrist, ending in a cuff made with the diagonal pintucking and whitework insertion like the yoke. The hem is 2 1/2 inches deep.
