DescriptionInfant's nightgown, made of plain white cotton. The neckline is high and round, with a ruffle of whitework embroidery under the neckline binding. The nightgown has a yoke across the front, decorated with pairs of tucks. The bottom edge of the yoke has a ruffle of whitework. The center front opening is eighteen inches long, and fastens with seven mother of pearl buttons (one is missing). The front of the nightgown is actually continuous from the shoulders, but the yoke effect is created by a narrow strip of embroidered self-fabric stitched over the pleats; the fullness of the pleats is released below this strip of embroidery, under the ruffle. The long sleeves are gathered into the armscye. The sleeves are gathered into a band of self-fabric at the wrist opening, and trimmed with a whipped ruffle of whitework embroidery. A narrow strip of embroidered self-fabric (like that at the bottom of the yoke) is stitched across the shoulder seams. The back of the nightgown is pleated into the neckline.
