DescriptionWoman's nightgown of fine white cotton. The nightgown has a square neckline with a square collar stitched along the sides and back. The collar is hand-embroidered in white with delicate floral sprays; it is edged with 1 1/4-inch-wide machine-made bobbin-type lace worked with circles. The nightgown opens along the proper left side, down from the corner of the neckline. The opening extends 17 1/2 inches and fastens with seven small mother of pearl buttons and a silk ribbon laced along the top edge, which ties at the corner of the neckline. Pintucks are stitched down from each shoulder, extending several inches below the neckline. The back of the nightgown is stitched with a narrow yoke; the body of the nightgown is gathered across the bottom of the yoke. The long, full sleeves are gathered at the shoulder and at the wrist, which is edged with a 4 1/2-inch-wide flounce of self-fabric, embroidered and edged in lace like the collar. All seams in this nightgown are faggoted, except for the side seams.
