In blue pencil, lower center, "Born in 1806".NotesSubject Note: John Parker Hale (1806-1873) served as a Democrat in the House of Representatives from 1843 to 1845. When he refused to vote for the annexation of Texas, the Democratic party revoked his renomination. Hale switched to the Free Soil party and served in the United States Senate from 1847 to 1853. He ran for President on the Free-Soil ticket in 1852, but did not win. Hale returned to the Senate in 1855, serving for ten more years. John Parker Hale died in Dover, New Hampshire, on 19 November 1873.
