DescriptionA young man stands with his left hand on his hip and his right hand resting on a table. He wears a coat, vest, shirt, necktie, and trousers. A white yoke is fastened around his neck with a rosette with two tassels. A patterned tablecloth is on the table. The man's hand rests on a sheet of paper inscribed: "PLEDGE. / No brother shall make, buy, sell / or use, as a beverage, any Spiritous / or Malt Liquors, Wine, or Cider." A book is also on the table. A fountain and a tree are visible through an open window in the left background. Fringed drapery tied back with cords with tassels is in the right background. A patterned carpet is on the floor.
