DescriptionA historical scene from the Napoleonic Wars, showing a battle between French soldiers on the right and Arabs on the left. The French soldiers wear uniforms and wield swords and muskets. Some have knapsacks. One Arab wields a dagger; another fires a pistol. A banner with two crecent moons flies over the Arabs. Some Arabs are wounded. A stone fort is in the background.

InscribedOn recto, lithographed title beneath image, "SIEGE OF CONSTANTINE. (AFRICA.) / The French, masters of the breach, rushed like a torrent upon the Arabs and made them pay dear for the fatigue which had been endured. The carnage was / terrible and the tumult and disorder which prevailed during the first hours of victory could not be suppressed."

On verso, a pencil drawing of a two-story building, apparently a house.
