"Personally appeared before me, E. C. McLean, Artist, and being duly sworn, states that the / above is a true representation of the Manchester Strawberry, as painted from nature on the / ground of G. H. & J. H. Hale." An additional lengthy inscription extols the accuracy of the representation and the virtues of the strawberry.
