DescriptionLeather sandals with a flat sole made of thick gray felt. The back of the sandals are cut off square, so that the heel of the foot would hang off the back. The leather top is attached to the felt with machine stitching with a very thick thread. The leather straps are attached with metal studs. The center front strap splits at the top; a perpendicular strap is attached with a metal stud and buckles to one side. Two vertical straps extend from either side of the heel. Another strap loops through these heel and center front straps and buckles around the ankle.

These sandals, with their felt soles and heelless backs appear to have been made for a particular purpose, which is now unclear. It is likely that they were meant to go over a shod foot.
