DescriptionShort jacket is olive-green twill-woven wool with two pleated front patch pockets. Pockets have flaps with hidden button fastener. Collar and lapel are topstitched and shoulders feature straps that button near the collar. Front closes with four buttons and a snap; the jacket has a waistband which has an extension on the proper left side of the opening that snaps down. Sleeves are pleated into cuffs which have small plackets and close with a button. There is a small adjustable strap and buckle on each side of the waistband. The proper right lapel has a gold metal pin reading "U.S.", and the left proper lapel has another circular pin featuring a symbol (perhpas a medal). Above the proper right front pocket is a diamond-shaped patch with a yellow circle and duck embroidered on it (The "Ruptured Duck", a symol of honorable discharge). Above the proper left pocket are two ribbon bars, one maroon- and white-striped, ans the other brown, green, red, black, and white with a raised star. On the upper arm areas of both sleeves are green and black patches with three stripes indicating and a "T" indicating a Specialist 4th grade. Above that on the proper left sleeve is a triangular unit patch of red, blue, yellow, and black with a "5" at the top. Near the cuff of the proper left sleeve is a patch featuring three horizontal yellow bars indicating three years of overseas service, and then a diagonal green and black stripe, one of which is received for every three years of honorable service. The lining of the jacket is a lighter green twill-woven cotton with a double welt pocket on each side of the front.
Pants are lighter weight olive green twill-woven wool and have side pockets and one back double-welt pocket on each side, the proper left of which fastens with a brown plastic button. There is also a small double-welt pocket on the proper right front. Back darts and button fly closure with an underlap that buttons on the inside. Waistband cut continuously with the pants with seven belt loops. Pants are lined with natural twill-woven canvas. There are six large buttons (not including underlap button) placed evenly around inner waistband, presumably for suspenders.
Belt is brown leather strip with one loop and five original holes (two were added later by wearer). Buckle is brass and there is an underlap of leather behind it. Buckle is attached with rivets, one of which is missing its brown cover.

The fabric of the brim overlaps in the front in a decreasing slop to the proper right. One cap is slightly more brown and has a sloping topThe top is a small strip attached to the sides (tapering to nothing at the front and back) and sewn down the middle to create a sharp crease. The other cap is slightly more yellow and has a wider brim. It consists of two side pieces stitched together at the top. Both have twill-woven cotton sweatbands.

The circle is supported at the edges by a steel (?) hoop. The brim is brown leather and crescent-shaped, and is bound in a strip of plastic-coated material of some sort. On the center front of the hat is a two-piece gold metal insignia of an eagle-wings spread, arrows in one claw, olive branch in the other and holding a shield- and a medallion above a banner reading "E Pluribus Unum." The inside is lined in gold satin with a synthetic pocket on the top and has a leather sweatband reinforced with petersham.

The center of the belt has the following stamped into it: "Genuine/ Bridle/ 215G/ 38"
Cap with sloping top has yellowing tag sewn inside at sweatband, but black printing is illegible.
Hat has center back inside tag of white woven ribbon with black printing that says "7 1/4." Stamped in green to the satin lining is the same emblem with the eagle that is on the center front, followed by the words "ALL WOOL".Inscribed"Barber, Walter C./ 11040786" is written in black marker/ink on the jacket at the center back lining and under the proper right front lining pocket. On the sweatband of the cap with the straight top is written "Barber, W.C. 11040786" in the same marker. "W.C. Barber 11040786" written to the right of the stamp on the belt in pencil or faded pen.NotesOwner Note: Walter Craig Barber of Waterbury, Connecticut, was a Specialist 4th grade assigned to the 127th Ordnance Maintenance Battalion, 5th Armored Division of the United States Army.
