BiographySophia Gay Larned was born 21 December 1823, the daughter of George Larned (1776-1862) and his second wife Anna Spalding Gay (1793-1883), both of Thompson. From 1845-1856 she taught at Grove Hall School in New Haven. On 2 January 1851 she married George Hadley; he taught chemistry at the Buffalo Medical College. She died on 8 January 1884.
