Bernard Shapiro

1908 - 1991
BiographyBernard Shapiro was born in Austria and immigrated to the United States at the age of 12. He graduated from the College of the City of New York, Columbia University, the New York School of Social Work, and New York University. In 1959, he was appointed Connecticut state Welfare Commissioner. He was on the faculty of the Yale University School of Medicine, a consultant to the Yale Community Health Care Center Plan, and a member of the Hartford Community Health Services board. In 1978, he retired as executive director of the New York State Board of Social Welfare. He died on September 15, 1991.
