BiographyDaniel F. MacKinnon was born on 1 December 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. In 1946, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served for 10 years. He graduated from Colgate University and the University of Michigan.
In 1973, he became the Director of Prison Industries at Somers State Prison in Connecticut. He later founded the Maverick Corporation in North Hartford, funded by the Ford Foundation, a work program for ex-convicts and juvenile offenders. He was Commissioner of Administration during Governor Ella Grasso's administration. In 1978, he ran for Congress but was defeated. He was a vice president at Merrill Lynch for 12 years. He also ran a small sheep farm in Suffield. He died on 17 March 2011.
