BiographyMelancthon "Chick" Williams Jacobus III was born on 1 February 1907 in Hartford, Connecticut. He was the son of Melancthon Williams Jacobus II (1855-1937) and Clara Francis Buel Cooley (1869-1939).

He attended the Kingswood School in West Hartford. He graduated from Princeton University in 1924 with two architecture degrees. In 1932, he became a faculty member at the Kingswood School, where he taught for 32 years teaching engineering, drawing, English, math, physics, art, and architecture. He retired in 1967.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy's Special Devics Division in Washington, DC. He served in the Naval Reserve for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Commander.

He published two books, "The Connecticut River Steamboat Story" (1956) and "Kingswood: Fifty Years" (1966).

After his retirement in 1967, Chick worked at the Connecticut Historical Society as curator of maps and prints.

He died on 6 April 1984 in Hartford and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
