DescriptionSixth plate daguerreotype of Fanny Gaylord Bissell of Torrington, Connecticut. Taken in middle age, Fanny Bissell is wearing a dress with narrow sleeves, a pointed bodice, and a shallow v neck. Her collar and cuffs are white. A ribbon, possibly of velvet, is tied around her neck and fastened with a small brooch. Her hair, which is mostly covered with a white daycap, is parted in the middle and fashioned into ringlets that hang down over her ears.
In her left hand, she is holding a chain of some sort (possibly a watch chain, or the strap of a handbag). Her right arm is resting on a table on which two books are visible.
